Deputy for Research and Technology of the Ministry of Health Visits Trauma Institute of Guilan

Dr. Shahin Akhondzadeh, Deputy for Research and Technology of the Ministry of Health, visited the Trauma Institute of Guilan. During the visit, he elaborated on structural challenges facing research in the Ministry and addressed the proliferation of research centers under the Ministry’s umbrella.

Key points from his remarks:

The number of Ministry of Health research centers has grown substantially. According to the 2012 national scientific map (approved 1391), 800 research centers were expected to operate under Ministry oversight. Subsequently, a meeting led to the establishment of more than 120 centers, many of which are not much active.

He announced plans to address this issue. The Council for Expansion currently approves new research centers, while non-active centers will be reviewed for elimination over a three-year period, making room for new, needed centers.

Emphasis on making research practically applicable, particularly in provinces like Guilan that face challenges such as traffic accidents. He called for greater synergy between scientific and executive institutions.

Dr. Shahrokh Yousefzadeh-Chabok, President of the Trauma Institute, Guilan University of Medical Sciences, announced the launch of the Neurotrauma Specialty Clinic and new departments. The main objective of the institute is to influence educational and clinical policies beyond merely publishing articles.

He stressed that the institute’s primary mission is to create tangible impact in policy-making and to elevate educational methodologies. He highlighted leveraging the energy and capabilities of young researchers as a core part of the agenda.

Plans were outlined to expand the institute’s structure, including the establishment of educational departments, bioinformatics, and international relations office. This expansion aims to enable more comprehensive research and training in trauma, contributing to Guilan’s emergence as a nationally and internationally influential scientific hub.

The new approach focuses on translating research into practical health outcomes for patients.

Dr. Yousefzadeh also announced the opening of the Neurotrauma Specialty Clinic at Shohada-ye Salamat Clinic in Rasht highlighting neurological injuries from trauma as high-priority, lasting health issues. The clinic will provide specialized services in this domain.
