Dr. Zahra Mohtasham-Amiri (1970, Ramsar) graduated in Preventive and Social Medicine in 1994 and specialized in Social Medicine from Shiraz University of Medical Sciences in 1998. She has become a faculty member of Guilan University of Medical Sciences (GUMS) since 1999. Dr. Mohtasham-Amiri founded the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine at the university. She was the dean of the Faculty of Health for two years. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Iranian Association of Community Medicine and has actively participated in various committees in GUMS for the past 20 years. In 2009, the needs of the elderly population and the lacking knowledge in both Guilan and Iran made her continue her studies in the field of Geriatric Medicine at the University of Sydney, Australia. After one year, she returned to the country and made ceaseless efforts for public recognition of the field of Geriatrics and the elderly’s health issues. Since 2014, she has been cooperating with Guilan Road Trauma Research Center as vice-dean of education and research. She has been prolific with more than 110 Persian and English publications and has authored several books in various health fields. During these years, she has been selected as a top researcher/professor many times at the provincial and regional levels. In addition to her academic activities, Mohtasham-Amiri has implemented two projects with the World Health Organization.
