During the presence of Iranian universities that are members of the Association of the Universities and Research Centers of the Caspian Region States, university officials held a meeting with the Consul General of Iran in Astrakhan.

According to the Public Relations Office of the International Affairs of Guilan University of Medical Sciences (GUMS), a group of Iranian academics in Astrakhan met with Mehdi Akochkian, Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Astrakhan. Dr. Iman Alizadeh, Director of International Affairs at GUMS, was present at the meeting, where the proposal to establish Guilan University of Medical Sciences as the secretariat of the medical commission of the Union of Caspian Universities was put forward. The proposal was welcomed by the Iranian consulate in Astrakhan.

In addition to this, the discussions between the Iranian academics and the Consul General, which took place at the consulate, focused on strengthening cooperation in various educational, cultural, and research fields.
