On the sidelines of the 26th Association of the Universities and Research Centers of the Caspian Region States, a Memorandum of Understanding between Guilan University of Medical Sciences (GUMS) and Astrakhan State Medical University was officially exchanged. The event took place in the presence of Mehdi Akochkian, Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Astrakhan, and the Director of International Affairs of GUMS.

According to the Public Relations Office of GUMS, this Memorandum of Understanding, previously agreed upon through video communication, was formally exchanged during the assembly in Astrakhan. The agreement aims to foster collaboration between the two medical universities in various academic and research fields.

GUMS is responsible for the medical sciences sub-commission affiliated with the Association of the Universities and Research Centers of the Caspian Region States. This sub-commission was established to explore a broad range of general and clinical research areas.

It is also noteworthy that, through the efforts of its International Affairs Office, GUMS has been listed in the Times Higher Education global ranking system, placing between 600-800 among medical sciences universities worldwide. In the 2024 Asian university rankings, GUMS is ranked 37th out of 75 universities from the Islamic Republic of Iran.
