In the current century, globalization has developed into one of the most important processes in the improvement of the quality of various levels of higher education, including that of medical sciences; becoming international is one of the major tenets of policies governing the advancement of science. The international branch of Guilan University of Medical Sciences (GUMS) has been established in line with the 20-year prospect plan for Islamic Republic of Iran and under the auspices of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education. The project was passed at the 181st. Assembly of the National Committee for Developing Medical Universities and was initiated in 2008 on the directive of the eminent dean of GUMS and constant support of the honorable vice-chancellor for education.
It is a pleasure for me and all those involved in planning for the International Branch of Guilan University of Medical Sciences (GUMS-IB) to express our gratitude to the experts and authorities of the revered government of Islamic Republic of Iran, who have made an invaluable contribution to the progress of globalization by proposing the idea of forming the international branch and their support of this wise and profound decision by administering the execution of the project. We rely upon the blessings of the Almighty to allow us to fulfill our mission of introducing responsible, creative and talented candidates from both inside the country and abroad. It is a great honor for us to contribute to the creation of excellent academic opportunities which allow for unprecedented levels of cultural and scientific interaction at a global level and the attraction of those who are interested in health care studies from within our borders and other nations around the world. The dynamic, integrated plan for the utilization of the latest learning technology in the International Branch gives us a remarkable international standing.
